Felipe Pérez Santiago

Considered by the press as one of the most recognized and active musicians on today's music scene, Felipe Pérez Santiago has received numerous awards in Europe, the United States, Asia, and Latin America, including, among many others, the composition prize from the Kronos Quartet, USA, the Bourges electroacoustic music prize in France, the dance music prize from the Onassis Foundation in Greece, the Betty J. Meyers fellowship in Washington, the National Performance Award in Austin, a platinum record in Mexico, the best music award at the Miami Film Festival, the National Gugak Center fellowship in Korea, as well as various other grants and recognitions.
 
He holds diplomas and master's degrees from prestigious music education institutions: the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales (CIEM) in Mexico, the Royal School of Music in London, and the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands.
 
In Mexico, he is an honorary member of the National System of Art Creators and has represented his country at UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers held in Finland. He was also named by the cultural portal MXCity as one of the most influential Mexican artists worldwide. In 2021, he received the "Trayectoria" (Career Achievement) award from the Society of Mexican Authors and Composers (SACM) for 25 years of a successful and uninterrupted career, and in 2023, he was named an Honorable Ambassador of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities for his work with children's and youth orchestras.
 
He is the founder and artistic director of the ensembles Mal'Akh, Vórtice Ensamble, and Vórtice Orquesta—flexible formations that combine contemporary music with various musical genres, leading him to collaborate with composers and artists of diverse disciplines from multiple countries. He is also the chief conductor of Ensamble ONIX (the oldest contemporary music ensemble in Mexico) and currently serves as the musical director and conductor of the orchestra of the historic Churubusco Studios.
 
His music has been commissioned and performed in more than 40 countries and has been featured in over 30 discographic productions, spanning large-scale concert works, operas, choral works, chamber music, and solo and electroacoustic pieces, performed by some of the world's most renowned orchestras, ensembles, and soloists. His compositions have been heard in some of the most important theaters, festivals, and venues worldwide. He has also been invited as a guest professor to conservatories, universities, and educational institutions in various countries.
 
He is currently an artist-in-residence at the SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) in California and the artistic director of the "Earthling" project, which consists of a compilation of voices from people all over the world to create a sonic legacy representing humanity. This project was launched into space on January 8, 2024, as part of the "Peregrine" mission of the Astrobotic space agency in collaboration with NASA, and on February 22, it was deposited on the surface of the moon as part of SpaceX's "Odysseus" project.
